We invest with an operator’s mindset.

Since 2008, Cuna del Mar has operated at the intersection of high-standard food production and (re)generative aquaculture. We began with a conviction that as a rising population and a changing climate reshape how we feed the world, the ocean production sector requires more than just capital – it requires a new kind of partner.

Cuna del Mar moves beyond simply allocating capital.

We are operators who activate an ecosystem of assets, infrastructure, and proprietary technology. With 18 years of hard-won intelligence, we understand the complexities of "egg to plate" logistics. This allows us to invest differently, bringing a level of technical precision and operational grit that sets our portfolio apart. We have built an integrated portfolio designed to meet the shifting demands of the ocean and the communities that depend on it.

“Food security requires more than just capital; it requires patience, precision, expertise, and a boldness to lead from the front to reset how we treat our planet and oceans and how we think about seafood production. Our work is about demonstrating that the most profitable future is one where we create economic viability while actively revitalizing the ecosystems and communities that sustain us.”

— Don Grant, Managing Partner

Our Approach

  • We bring and build real value. CdM backs bold companies solving the industry’s most pressing environmental and operational challenges.

  • Creating a competitive advantage that will set a new global standard for ocean production.

  • We don’t just follow existing markets; we create the commercial demand for species that are resilient to a changing climate. CdM is building markets for beautiful, premium warm-water fish like Totoaba, Kanpachi, Huachinango, and Cobia. We raise species at scale to feed the world while rebuilding the biodiversity essential for a healthy ocean.

Why Us

We bridge the gap between R&D and commercial production: Our strategy is built on the direct application of R&D and technology to support and enable more efficient and effective production systems. We believe that while research provides the blueprint,  technology provides precision, and using these tools together creates a profitable business that can restore without further degrading the ocean.

We do this in a coordinated portfolio where every new investment adds a distinct, functional capability to our ecosystem. This structure ensures that shared data and operational experience de-risk the path forward, allowing us to transform warm-water regions into reliable, high-yield hubs for premium protein. By pairing patient capital with this integrated business model, we are building a scalable system to restore marine health and secure the global food supply.

Founder’s Vision

Cuna del Mar is built on a legacy of pioneering ocean restoration. It was founded by Christy Walton to scale solutions required to restore marine biodiversity and abundance. Her commitment is rooted in the understanding that the health of the planet is inseparable from the health of the ocean. To move from conservation to commercial viability, Christy formed Cuna del Mar to accelerate the development of offshore farming technologies and sustainable aquaculture systems. This work has turned theory into practice: today, Cuna del Mar companies are pioneering everything from submersible offshore farms to genetics research and the recovery of endemic species like the Totoaba. By merging community-based economic development with industrial innovation, Christy’s vision continues to demonstrate how high-standard food production can actively restore our oceans.
